New Parent Support Home Visitation Program (NPHVP)

New Parent Support Home Visitation Program (NPSHVP) is an early-intervention service to families designed to provide education and support services that will promote healthy child development. The program is designed specifically to encourage and empower military families with skills to meet and succeed the challenges of the military and parenthood. The NPSHVP services families that are expecting or have young children. Some of the benefits of the program include:

  • To feel more at home in the military community
The FFSC’s NPSHV is a maternal-child specialist registered nurse who provides individualized assistance for prenatal parents and families with new infants and young children through home visitation services.  Families are assisted in preparing for their new roles and challenging responsibilities of parenting in the military. The NPS program offers additional services to enhance parenting experience for new families that include:
  • Home visits for support and parenting instruction
  • Play Group for parents and babies/toddlers interactive play
  • Nurturing Touch, infant massage instruction
  • Amazing Newborn, newborn preparation and infant care class
  • Parenting instruction programs for 0 to 4-year-olds
  • Prenatal, Postpartum, Breastfeeding, and Infant care instruction
  • Dads 101 Boot Camp, trained military dads instruction for new dads
Nurturing Parenting Program
The Navy’s NPSHVP is based on the Nurturing Parenting Program ©. This program is inclusive with the Nurturing America’s Military Families © designed exclusively for military families.  The primary goal of this program is to teach parents skills to nourish themselves and their children while embracing a military lifestyle. The NPSHVP and Nurturing Parents Parenting Program are evidence- based, tested with over 25 years of research with military and civilian families.  The Nurturing Program addresses five primary topics:
  • Age Appropriate Expectations 
  • Responding Empathically to your Child’s needs
  • Disciplining Children with Dignity
  • Self-Awareness and Appropriate Family Roles
  • Empowering Children and Adults
Additional subjects addresses:
  • Nurturing Concepts
  • The uniqueness of military life and keeping relationships together
  • Bonding with your new baby or toddler 
  • The importance of Nurturing Touch 
  • Understanding and handling stress
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PSTD) 
  • Implementing nurturing routines
