Ombudsman Spotlight: Salena McAleavey

A posed picture of Salena McAleavey in front of the United States and US Navy flags. The Navy Ombudsman Support Program, which is coordinated by the Fleet & Family Support Center, provides information and referrals to assist Command families with concerns or issues by regularly communicating and distributing information to and from the Command and the unit's family members and by keeping the Command informed regarding the overall health, morale and welfare of the families in the Command.

Ombudsmen are key resources for family members, particularly during deployments.

Commands at NAS Patuxent River are supported by a team of volunteer Ombudsmen. Salena McAleavey is one such volunteer, who supports FRC.

McAleavey is a proud mother of three who has been an active-duty military spouse for the past 12 years.

Over the course of her husband’s service, she has offered support through five deployments, gaining firsthand insight into the unique challenges military families face.

Most recently, she served as the ombudsman for her husband’s Command for two and a half years and had the privilege of supporting fellow military families, providing guidance and acting as a trusted resource during both everyday life and challenging times.

This role deepened McAleavey's passion for helping others and strengthened her commitment to service and community support.
