What is a Super Pink Moon?

A supermoon happens when the full moon coincides with the moon's closest approach to Earth in its orbit. Supermoons make the moon appear a little brighter and closer than normal.

Why call it a Pink Moon?

When a super moon appears in April it is called the Pink Super Moon. The name Super Pink Moon comes from one of the first spring flowers, Wild Ground Phlox, also known as Moss Phlox (Phlox subulata) as they cover the ground like a pink blanket.  With the supermoon appearing during spring it only seems fit to name!

How to create a cozy campsite?

If you have a tent: Treat your backyard just as you would when you are a campsite.  Find a smooth, flat surface to call home for the night.  Get cozy by adding yoga mats, bed rolls, or even multiple layers of blankets. There is no limit, you don’t have to load it into your car! Time to get SUPER COZY!!!!

Don’t have a tent? No worries… Create a shelter by tying rope between two trees and hang a large tarp, blanket, or even a sheet over the top.  You just want to make sure you have a dry place to sleep by laying a waterproof tarp underneath.  Don’t forget to add unlimited blankets for extra comfort!!

How to cook up some camp chow in your backyard?

While you may not have access to all the great traditions you may be use to cooking why camping in the outdoors.  Go throw your food options and think what you can cook over a fire if you have access to fire a pit.  If you don’t have a fire pit, a grill can be easy to use as well. Of course, you don’t need a campfire or grill to eat like a camper.  Pack food items that you can easily place in a cooler to grab and eat when ready.  For example: Sandwiches, trail mix, cheese snacks, or already prepared meals.

Plan on Games and Activities

There is so much adventure to be had outside other than watching the Super Pink Moon.

  • If you are in your backyard who not break out some fun lawn game like cornhole, frisbee, football, soccer, Jenga, volleyball, or any other outdoor game you may have packed away.
  • Don’t have any outdoor games?  No worries, bring out those dusty board games and play some classic games like Monopoly, Checkers, Sorry, Uno, or even just a deck of cards to play some War or Gold Fish.
  • Have a scavenger hunt; write down flowers, trees, toys, or anything other items you may have a let the fun begin.
  • Watch a movie outdoors. No need to bring out the entire television set.  Bring a tablet and a Bluetooth speaker.  Instant movie fun!!!

Make a Rule to Stay at the Campsite

Try to make the event feel as real as camping by prepping ahead of time so you don’t have to dash somewhere every minute.  Bring everything together that you think you will need.  Including: Tent, sleeping bags, flashlights, games, cooler packed with drinks and snacks.  But most importantly don’t stress because if you forgot something you are only feet away. If you want to make a true rustic camp-in leave the cell phones away from your camping area!!! J
